St James and the Sisters of the Convent

St James and the Sisters of the Convent St James and the Sisters of the Convent
The convent, built in 1588 as an offering by baron Carlo Giavante and his consort for their son to recover from illness, had a church dedicated to St James where the city hall now stands
After purchasing the collapsed ruins of the old church of St Thomas, he had a new church built in the late-baroque style of the day.

Despite a few temporary interruptions, the Benedictine order of nuns still live in the convent, maintaining that lineage of worship around the church, making for a particularly intimate atmosphere.
