Ecce Homo church and Cambellotti’s windows
Ecce Homo church and Cambellotti’s windows
Its imposing façade and tower stand at the top of Via Ecce Homo, overlooking the surrounding countryside.
We particularly recommend visiting at dusk, when the shadow of the church is cast onto the street below.
Built in the early 1800s, the late-baroque façade contrasts with the later neoclassical style of the interior. In addition to an important wooden statue depicting the ecce homo, the church also features three large stained glass windows which are the work of Duilio Cambellotti.
The three windows were unveiled to the public in 1956, two in the transept depicting the Nativity and Pentecost, and a third in the choir showing Christ With the Crown of Thorns. The original plan was to have 15 stained glass windows, portraying the Mysteries of the Rosary.
